THE TIME FOR DECORUM in the U.S. House of Representatives is past. The time for Truth has come.
Time after time in President Obama’s Sept. 9, 2009, speech on health care before a joint session of Congress,
he called the American people liars
for speaking what he, himself, knows
darn well is the truth. And that,
it seems, is okay.
Time after time in his speech, the President told lie after lie, bold-faced and blatantly, knowing full well that what he said was untrue. And that, it seems, is okay.
Time after time, when the President told a lie or called the American people liars, the Congressional Democrats applauded, cheered, and rose to their feet.
But when Congressman Joe Wilson (R-SC) grew increasingly and justifiably incensed by the President’s hubris, audacity and mendacity, and
finally, unable to hold it in any longer, one time shouted out, “You lie,” following one of the President’s most outrageous and demonstrable lies – that, it seems, is not okay.
Well excuse me, but somebody needed to say it. Go, Joe!
(Article continues below ads. Please note that Perspicacity Press does not necessarily endorse these ads.)
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, herself the Queen of Audacity and Mendacity, and her adoring Minions on the left side of the aisle in the House of Representatives, have threatened to punish Joe Wilson for speaking the truth!
(As though the Democrats in Congress have never called a Republican president a liar, even when their accusations were totally unfounded. What hypocrisy!)
Will the tyrants in Congress stop at forbidding use the “L” word? Hardly. If they get away with this, it is a short step to censuring the opposition for anything that calls attention to their lies, even if spoken politely and without using the word “Lie.” And it is a short step from there to prohibiting any statement that disagrees with them, on pain of expulsion from the House.
To any alert observer, it is clear that this is not about decorum. It is about silencing the opposition by any means necessary. It is tyranny, pure and simple.
What remains to be seen is whether the Republicans in the House will courageously stand up against this indignation, this tyranny, this heavy-handed revocation of the right of free speech in the United States Congress, or whether they will politely grovel and kowtow to Queen Pelosi in order to protect their own hides. If we, and our elected representatives, are afraid to speak the truth, afraid to call a lie a lie, and afraid to stand shoulder to shoulder in solid support with those who do, then there is no hope for this country.
It will wind up just like the totalitarian socialist “Utopias” – Castro’s Cuba, Hugo’s Venezuela, Stalin’s Russia, Mao’s China, Kim Jong Il’s North Korea and Ho Chi Minh’s Vietnam – that Pelosi, Obama and their Minions so lavishly praise and admire.
Decorum has its place. But when Decorum is used to silence the opposition – when it becomes a weapon in the hands of power-crazed politicians who are determined to radically transform this Land of Liberty and turn it into a haven for Socialist/Fascist/Statist despots, czars and political thugs – we say again:
The time for decorum is past. It is time to stand up and shout out the truth, even if that means committing that most grievous of Congressional improprieties: calling a lie a lie!
