The following letter is in response to comments
made to CNN host D.L. Hughley by Republican National Committee Chairman
Michael Steele in an interview that aired on Saturday, Feb. 28, in which
he criticized popular conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh for
saying he wants the Obama agenda to fail, characterized Mr. Limbaugh as
just an entertainer, and described his rhetoric as "incendiary" and
"ugly," and also to Mr. Steele's subsequent "apology" to
Rush that began
with the disingenuous words, "To the extent...."
Tuesday, March. 3, 2009
Michael
Steele, Chairman
Republican National Committee
310 First Street
Washington, D. C. 20003
Dear Mr.
Steele,
I am aghast!
I was pleased when you were elected chairman of the RNC because I had
been led to believe by people who claimed to know you that you were a
man of high character and solid conservative (read foundational American) principles.
How is it
that you do not recognize the dangers in the Obama agenda? How can you
possibly even suggest that you want that agenda to succeed, much less
criticize someone for wanting it to fail. Can you not understand?
If Obama succeeds, America fails!

You called
Rush Limbaugh's defense of conservative principles "incendiary" and
"ugly." Let me state this clearly, Mr. Steele:
It
IS ugly out there, and it's going to get uglier. The
Obamacrats are focused on destroying the Republican party, destroying
the Conservative movement and destroying America as it was envisioned by
its founders. We are already well down that path. If the so-called leadership of the Republican party (that,
presumably, would be you) doesn't get incendiary soon and stand up to
the socialist left, rather than making a nice sweet non-threatening show
of bi-partisanship and "working together," that so-called leadership
will soon be swept aside by those of us who truly love America as it was
intended to be, ought to be, and can be.
Incendiary? I certainly hope so.
Somebody's got to light a fire under you guys!
Mr. Steele,
Your attempt at an apology for your ill-advised words on CNN was
inadequate. No apology is genuine that starts with such words as "If" or
"To the extent."
What you need to say, without equivocation, is: "I was wrong to
say what I said. I sincerely apologize. Rush is right. We who love
America must do everything we can to see that Obama's socialist agenda
fails and to put America back on the right path."
It's not
enough for Republican politicians to nibble away at the edges of the
Democrat Party's socialist programs, Mr. Steele. Minor mitigation is no victory.
America's downward spiral into socialism and statism must be stopped in
its tracks and the trend reversed. Every Republican, every conservative,
every freedom-loving American needs to get on board --
you need to get on board, Mr. Steele -- and work and fight, tirelessly and unreservedly and unrelentingly,
to make that happen. We must pledge our lives, our fortunes, our sacred
honors to that cause, as did America's founders, or we will see the
enemies of freedom take our nation back to the tyranny of the middle
ages.
Perspicaciously Yours,
Rand Green
